VeilKit docs
Everything you need, in about five minutes of reading.
Quick start
- Install VeilKit and pin it to your browser toolbar.
- Press Alt+B (or open the popup and choose Blur). Hover anything and click to blur it. Click again to unblur.
- Press Esc to leave blur mode. Your blurs stay.
- Have a license? Open Settings → License and enter your key, purchase email and a device name.
Blur modes
Click to blur
- ↑ / Alt+scroll up selects the parent element; ↓ goes back to the child.
- Shift+click builds a multi-selection, which is blurred when you release Shift.
- Links and buttons don't fire while blur mode is on, so you can't navigate away by accident.
Blur Area (Pro)
Alt+A, then drag a rectangle. Hover it to move it, resize it from the corners, pin it to the viewport (for sticky headers) or × delete it. Areas drawn inside a scrollable panel scroll with that panel. Hold Shift while releasing to draw another.
Blur selected text (Pro)
Select text, then right-click → Blur selection, or use the toolbar's Text button. Selections can span bold, italics and links.
Auto-blur (Pro)
Blurs email addresses, phone numbers, currency amounts, card numbers (Luhn-checked) and API keys or tokens, and keeps scanning as the page changes. Choose which patterns to use in Settings.
Keep Blur (Pro)
With Keep Blur on, new blurs are saved and re-applied whenever the page loads, including after in-app navigation in single-page apps. Choose what a saved blur matches in Settings:
| Exact URL | Only this exact address, including ?query and #hash. |
| Page path (default) | This page, whatever the query string. |
| Whole domain | Every page on this site. Good for app chrome like Gmail's sidebar. |
Saved blurs store a URL key, an element locator (stable id or test attribute, a short CSS selector, an nth-of-type path and an XPath) and, for areas, a rectangle. They never store page text or images. Manage or delete them from the popup.
Controls
| Alt+B | Toggle blur mode |
| Alt+A | Draw a blur area |
| Alt+H | Hide / show all blurs (reveal) |
| Alt+C | Clear all blurs on the page |
| Alt+click | Peek at a single blurred item |
Change shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts (Edge: edge://extensions/shortcuts, Firefox: Add-ons → gear icon → Manage Extension Shortcuts).
Licenses & browsers
Every activated browser profile uses one seat. If you run out, the extension lists your active browsers so you can free one, or you can do it from My Account. Licenses re-check with our server about once a week. If you're offline, VeilKit keeps working for another 14 days.
Limitations
- Browser UI (address bar, tabs, bookmarks) can't be blurred by any extension. Share a tab or window instead of the whole screen.
- Built-in browser pages (settings, extension stores, the new-tab page) don't allow extensions.
- Content inside closed shadow DOM is blurred as a whole component.
- Blurs are applied by the page, so check them in your recording tool's preview before you go live.
